#AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS EXCITED ABOUT A PAIRING BEFORE
I’m SO with you on this!
No pressure though, right?
I just finished “A Cruel Thing,” and wow. What a beautiful, uplifting, heartbreaking story.
“…Zane glanced to his right to see a dark figure leaning against the wall further down, a halo of blue smoke rising from his lips. His back was against the wall, his hips jutting out, one foot propped up against the brick. He made an enticing, sensual silhouette. Zane nodded at him, recognizing the outline of the bowler hat. The man reached up to the bill of his hat, tipping it to them. Zane stared for another moment before he tore his eyes away and followed his wife out of the alley.” - Touch & Geaux
This is so awesome.
Gives me chills
Not bad. Not bad at all.

And now I’m imagining the phone surreptitiously doing all these things to fuck with Ty, like: ringing in the middle of movies, butt-dialing all of Ty’s contacts, secretly recording every time Ty and Zane are having sex …
Basically, his phone is the electronic equivalent of a Chucky doll.
I should let people ask Ty’s phone questions in the Interrogation Room. LOL
I just read F&C for the first time in its entirety since reading T&G, and a scene that has always puzzled me in F&C finally made sense. I apologize if this scene has already been discussed before by the minions and this is just a sorry re-hash. And any new minions that might happen to see this and you haven’t finished all the books yet, PLEASE don’t read this. I wouldn’t want to spoil one second of these books’ awesomeness for you!!
The scene takes place right after Ty & Zane have made the decision not to use condoms anymore. Zane pulled off the condom and padded toward the bathroom, glancing toward Ty as he crossed the room. Ty had pushed himself up to sit in the bed. He was sitting cross-legged, his eyes closed and his head bowed as he ran a single finger across his eyebrow. His forehead was creased with worry lines, and he was almost imperceptibly rocking. Fish & Chips by Abigail Roux, Chapter 9
That scene has always puzzled me because it seems like such an out-of-place reaction from Ty to what had just happened: They had had amazing sex, and Zane had just agreed to a commitment and their relationship took a big step forward. Why wasn’t Ty sitting there with a goofy grin on his face? I remember the first time I read this going back and re-reading passages in the book, trying to figure out what I missed and thinking I must be too dumb to appreciate the subtleties and nuance that were trying to be conveyed. I figured maybe Ty was just worried because he hadn’t been in love before with this level of commitment, and knowing Zane wasn’t in love with him had to hurt, but to be upset enough to have to rock about it?
Then this earlier scene came to mind: Ty was chewing on his bottom lip, one hand in Zane’s pocket, the other resting on top of Zane’s. “I don’t mind questions, you know,” he finally said softly. “If I can’t tell you what you want to know, I’ll just tell you that,” he assured Zane. “Just…for future reference.” “Like if I asked you about the phone calls in the middle of the night that send you off to work without me?” Ty was silent for a moment, and then he lowered his head slightly and leaned forward. “I can’t tell you what you want to know,” he answered, his voice low and monotone.
A paragraph later: “In a way, it’s a relief to at least hear that,” Zane said quietly. He could feel Ty holding his breath, the way he did when he wanted to speak but didn’t plan to. “It’s okay. I do understand why you can’t talk about it.” Ty jerked his head in a nod, but he still hadn’t exhaled. “Maybe one day I can tell you about it,” he finally said tightly. Fish & Chips by Abigail Roux, Chapter 9.
So all of this finally came together for me after reading T&G and reading this again. This is the fork in the road for Ty, where Zane has given him the perfect opening to share his secret, and he can go down one of two paths, tell Zane and hope for the best, or keep it from him. I honestly don’t know what would have happened if Ty had told him the truth right then since we know Zane isn’t as emotionally invested in the relationship in F&C as he is in T&G. So A) because he’s not as emotionally invested, would he have handled it better if Ty told him right then? Been hurt and upset at first but able to accept and get over it fairly easily? Or B) because he’s not as emotionally invested, would Zane have just said “Fuck you very much” to Ty and walked away without a backward glance, got himself reassigned and gone on with his life? I can just see Ty weighing these two outcomes in his mind while he’s holding his breath and it could go either way at that moment, and then he makes his decision, he’s going to keep the secret from Zane.
So when they decide they are going to commit to each other and be exclusive, instead of being totally happy, Ty is sitting there rocking and second-guessing himself about his decision because he’s heading down the path of no return the deeper the relationship gets. But at the same time, it was Ty’s suggestion to make a commitment, so was he thinking that he’d better take steps to bring Zane closer to him so that maybe he won’t leave if he does find out someday? I think this one chapter is pivotal in the set-up for everything that follows, and the moment in time where Ty is at a crossroads and he decides which path he’s going to follow, which is, keep it from Zane and hope he never finds out. The subtle foreshadowing and character development of these books is so brilliant that I’m breathless.
JFC, these books are total fucking life-ruiners and I can’t even. Just when I think I’ve dealt with all my feels, something new likes this jumps out. Sorry this is so long, I had to share. If any minion has a different interpretation of this whole thing and your eyes haven’t glazed over by the time you’ve gotten to this point, please feel free to share! Maybe I’m just fucking over-analyzing this whole thing, which wouldn’t surprise me.
Indeed!
